Crystal Charged Sword

This is by far my favorite design and model so far. After several other projects and learning from them, I was able to focus more of my attention on the overall shape of the weapon, as well as ensuring that it has an interesting silhouette from several angels. I have always liked swords and really wanted to make a design that would stand out as an interesting concept, which drew me towards the idea of nesting a crystal at the center of the blade.

Even though it is very fantastical I tried to keep it as realistic as I could, such as keeping the blade thin and having a comfortable handle.

The hilt was made with art-deco ideas in mind, the whole time I was making it I kept seeing them as wings, which got me wondering what kind of person or world this kind of blade would belong to.

The crystal idea came from me wanting to make an interesting centerpiece, something chaotic to counter the angular hilt.

The textures came out really good this time around, and I think my skill at creating layers and details in Substance Painter has improved a lot.

I really do love the look of this blade, I think the design does a good job of packing in detail and leaving room to breathe by not overcrowding the prop. I am very proud of how far I'm coming along.
