Modern Maw

A project I did to recontextualize a favorite artist of mine, Francis Bacon. Much of his artwork was meant to emulate the intense emotions of Post World War 2 Europe. I admire his ability to evoke such emotions so I wanted to try to recreate it but within a modern setting and using modern tools.

Single point rendering allowed me to really get the lighting to a place that I liked, including rim lighting to help separate the focal point and interior lighting on the mouth to really draw in the eye.

Another render but with red lighting to mimic the red background from the original painting.

Simply arrays and distant blurred shapes helped provide a sense of scale and infinite space. I drew inspiration from stories about the Backrooms and other online horror stories.
